After conceding an early goal boss Mark Stimson thought his side did really well and although didn’t deserve to win, possibly deserved to draw after getting back on level terms with a fantastic strike from Andy Barcham.

Speaking to BBC Radio Kent after the final whistle he said, “I was pleased at half-time and thought going with the wind,  just tried to encourage the boys to pass the ball a bit more and have a few more touches, but it didn’t quite work out in the second half.”

Stimson continued, “From my point of view it wasn’t good enough in the second half, we’re a footballing team and we’ve got to pass it more and try to create more chances. We tried to change it, obviously by taking players off and putting players on but still didn’t create chances apart from the boy Jackson who had a shot late on but the defender made a good block.”

On the subject of why Simeon Jackson was omitted from his starting line-up, Stimson added, “He never arrived back until Thursday and missed training plus due to the weather we didn’t train on Friday, so would have been hard to put him straight back in after the great performance from the team last week in similar conditions.”

Stimson also felt the Gills didn’t get the rub of the green and blasted one the linesmen/assistant referee over some big decisions including ignoring a penalty shout from Andy Barcham in the first half and mistakenly awarding a corner when Kevin Maher clearly kept the ball in.

He jokingly said that if the Irish had him they would probably still be in the World Cup!!!
