STIMSON: JACKSON PUT IT AWAY WITH PURE CLASS
Wednesday 25 November
When Febian Brandy was hauled down inside the penalty area to win a third consecutive spot-kick in as many home games, all eyes amongst the Priestfield faithful remained firmly on who would take it.
Although Simeon Jackson had failed with his previous two efforts there was never a hint of him stepping down as first choice pen taker as he calmly stroked the ball over the Glovers keeper and into the net.
Speaking at the post match media conference, Mark Stimson (right) said, “He put it away with pure class. Fair play to him because he’s missed the last couple but he stood up, took responsibility and put us on our way to a very important victory.
It took bottle to step up but he wants to be the highest goalscorer in the league and if he gets a chance from 12 yards he’s not going to turn it down.”
Jackson (left) talking to the Gills Official website added, "I thought Curtis (Weston) was going to kick up a stink because he scored the last one.
It was good to go in one to the good and it should have been three or four but I am happy with the three points as we needed them."
Overall the Gills manager was very pleased with the positive way his team bounced back from last Saturday’s defeat against Bristol Rovers and commented, “They had some constructive criticism over the last 48 hours and they responded in the right way.
When you give the criticism out you always wonder if you’re being too heavy on them because some of them are young lads still and are learning the game. If they’ve got anything about them and they take it in the right way they’ll produce and they did that.”
Meanwhile Glovers boss Terry Skiverton (right) is becoming a little concerned over Yeovil’s loss of form on their travels after scoring in just one League away game since August and losing their previous three on the bounce.
Speaking to the Independent Ciderspace website he said, “It's almost as if you've gone back two steps. I'm starting to think I’ve got to pick a totally different team away from home. At home we seem to play good football, but I was disappointed that we didn't show bravery and getting on the ball and trying to get through it.”
The Yeovil boss had no complaints though about the spot kick that sealed the game, with defender Steven Caulker deemed to have fouled Febian Brandy as he turned in the box, leading to Simeon Jackson's winning goal
Skiverton commented, “I think it was a penalty. I think he had hold of his shirt and I'm not going to deny that. So I think that was a stonewaller. But these things happen, they got the decision, and well done to them.”
