DETAIL

Pre-match chatter ... from Priestfield

The loan window opened again following last week’s transfer deadline allowing us to restart talks with Charlton for striker Chris Dickson (pictured left when he was last with us on loan)

The two clubs were thought to be close to an agreement on a permanent move just before the transfer window closed, but ran out of time to seal the deal.

The option now is to bring Dickson in on loan, however that can only be for a maximum of 93 days. The move is now more critical than before following striker Mark McCammon’s hamstring injury last weekend against Exeter.

The word is that we are "really close" to signing 24-year-old Dickson on loan and the deal should be completed “anytime soon”, with the only delay is that Charlton want a 28-day call-back clause.  Stimson said: "It's a matter of doing the final bit. That could take a minute and it could take two days. The boy wants to come full lock, stock and barrel. He doesn't want the option of having to be called back."

Stimson added: "If he does well and score goals here and they've got a call-back on him, it can put us out of joint a little bit. But also the boy wants to come and play for us and stay."

He went on to say that they have received no enquiries for young strikers Luis Cumbers and Andy Pugh who they are prepared to loan out. Cumbers spent a couple of months at Blue Square Premier side Ebbsfleet United last season, making two appearances and scoring once, while Pugh enjoyed a longer spell with Grays, playing 17 times and scoring seven.

Meanwhile 18-year-old midfielder Luke Rooney (right) who scored on his home debut last weekend, will be looking to play a part in this weekend’s game.

He was more than delighted with his goal and introduction to first team league action: “I’ll remember it forever. To score on your league debut, it doesn’t get any better than that. The ball came through everyone and I caught it sweetly,” said Rooney.

“I’m an ambitious kid. Pre-season the target was to be in the 18 at the start of the season and I did that. After that you want to come on and then start, which I’ve done, and then maybe cement a place in the team.”

Gills Recent Form - last 6 matches

Millwall Recent Form - last 6 matches

Four points from the last two games has seen us rise from 18th to 11th in the table. Last Saturday’s impressive 3-0 home win has further boosted confidence following the JPT win over Colchester.

After last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers, the Lions have dropped to 13th, two places below us.

Wolves defender Darren Ward (left) could return to Millwall after a loan approach from South London club. Ward seems to be out-of-favour at Molineux and hasn’t played a game for the Midlands side since August 2008 and has spent loan spells at Watford and Charlton.

Now 30, Ward could go back to the club he played for between 2001 and 2005, making 142 appearances and scoring four goals.

Gills Team News ...

The Man in the Middle ...

Our referee this Saturday is Mr Keith Stroud from Hampshire. He was appointed to the FIFA International Assistants list in 2003 and joined the Select Group Referees List in 2007.

He was the man in the middle for the 2004 Conference Play-Off Final between Shrewsbury Town and Aldershot Town and was an Assistant Referee (Linesman) during the 2002 FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Southampton.

Naturally being in the Select Group, his visits to Priestfield will be limited, although he was in charge of our FA Cup clash last season against Aston Villa, during which he booked six. He also made it to the New Den earlier that season for the Lions meeting with Southend … he managed seven yellows that day.

Lions Team News ...

Striker Mark McCammon's hamstring injury is not as bad as first feared, but he will be sidelined for two to four weeks.

Midfielder Stuart Lewis is progressing well with his ankle injury and is expected to return to training in a few weeks time. Unfortunately centre back Simon King (ankle ligaments) is not doing as well as hoped and is still some way off a return.

Midfielder Adam Miller (left) missed last weekend's win over Exeter with a bruised foot, but is back in training this week and could feature.

Utility man Chris Palmer's excellent display last weekend has given manager Mark Stimson a selection headache at left back with usual first choice John Nutter doing well when he came off the bench to set up youngster Luke Rooney's goal late in the second half.

Gills eleven from (4-4-2): Simon Royce (GK), Alan Julian (GK), Barry Fuller, John Nutter, Josh Gowling, Garry Richards, Kevin Maher, Danny Jackman, Curtis Weston, Adam Miller, Chris Palmer, Mark Bentley, Dennis Oli, Simeon Jackson, Jack Payne, Andy Barcham, Jacob Erskine, Luis Cumbers, Andy Pugh, Luke Rooney, Tom Wynter, Connor Essam, Rashid Yussuff.

Lions boss Kenny Jackett was delighted with the loan signing of Reading winger James Henry (right).

He scored three times in 16 appearances during a similar loan spell at the New Den last season and will be included in the squad this weekend.

Defensive linchpin and team captain Paul Robinson is ruled out with damaged ankle ligaments sustained on his return from a broken foot against Barnet.

He joins the Lions long injury list which includes Zak Whitbread (hip), Tony Craig (back), Pat O'Connor (cruciate), Danny Senda (achilles), Neil Harris (calf) and Steve Morison.

Forward Lewis Grabban managed 90 minutes in the Reserves 0-1 midweek defeat to Aldershot after recovering from a thigh strain and could be in contention.

Lions eleven from (4-4-2): David Forde, Alan Dunne, Andrew Frampton, Adam Bolder, Zak Whitbread, Danny Schofield, Gary Alexander, Neil Harris, Lewis Grabban, Dave Martin, Chris Hackett, John Sullivan, Tony Craig, Scott Barron, James Henry, Ashley Grimes, Steve Morison, Jack Smith, Ali Fuseini, Jason Price, Marc Laird, Nadjim Abdou, Pat O'Connor, George Friend, Marcus Bignot, Kiernan Hughes-Mason, Omar Beckles, John Marquis, Danny Fitzsimons
