Some of the best Gills team performances in the Black & Blue colours are still strong in the memories of fans.

Gillingham Football Club have responded in agreeing the change of kit for next year as 97% of fans answered “Yes” to the survey question “Do you think it's important what colour strip the Gills play in”.


Those who answered “Yes” were then asked what colours they would prefer the players to wear for home games. 64% replied Black & Blue shirts with Black shorts, 22% said Blue shirts and White shorts, whereas only 11% chose an All Blue kit


The third question related to away kits and what two colours fans preferred the team to play in on their travels plus a third kit. Almost 63% nominated Black & White stripes and Black shorts that were initially worn by New Brompton squad during their debut season in 1893-94.

The next question in the survey asked fans if they purchased a home or away replica shirt each season, with only 40% of our fans replying in the affirmative.


Those answering ‘NO’ were asked if playing in a different colour that the fans chose would change their decision nearly 65% answered ‘YES’ it would.


Question 6 concerned the Club badge with the majority happy to keep the current design with the rampant horse although most fans preferred Domus Clamantium, (Home of the Shouting Men) added underneath.


Question 7 related to how much the Club valued the opinions of it’s fans when asking, How important do you think the fans opinions are when it comes to decisions such as club colours, club badge and other issues such as "safe" terracing areas and non-reserved seating areas for "singers" to congregate in the ground?


Almost 70% believed it was very important whilst only just over 26% thought it was quite important. Gills fans registered 137 different replies.


With the Kent Reliance Building Society ceasing their shirt sponsorship at the end of the current season, Gillingham Football Club will be looking to secure a new sponsor for their Black & Blue shirts for the forthcoming 2010-11 campaign.
