Yakubu believes he can help lift Coventry City fortunes with goals and assists during his spell with the club until the end of this current season. The striker made his debut for the Sky Blues against AFC Wimbledon during the week, coming on as a substitute just after the hour mark. Yakubu is expected to be in the starting line-up against the Gills on Saturday.

‘The Yak’ said, “Things are quite tough for Coventry City at the moment and I understand what is expected of me. I had the opportunity to train with the players here, I see great qualities and believe things can get better. I love scoring goals and helping my team-mates to score, together we can lift the club.”

Coventry boss Russell Slade said after 34-year-old Yakubu’s debut, “You saw little flashes of Yakubu. His calmness on the ball, linking up. He’s not going to run past too many but if we can get the ball to him he’s going to be difficult for the opposition to handle.”
