GillsConnect Comment

Dateline: FRIDAY 21 APRIL 2017

This might, or possibly might not, be the reasoning behind the decision to scrap the End of Season bash where supporters and sponsors, who pay for the privilege, can meet and greet players up close and personal. For the Club this cancellation of player celebration, plus refunded monies paid (if the Chairman was correct that it was nearly sold out), must be regarded as an absolute PR disaster.

GillsConnect can only surmise that this annual tradition has been scrapped this season because of a complete lack of supporter and sponsor interest and despite the Chairman’s words, ticket sales have probably been poor, mimicking the team’s efforts for most of this year’s struggling campaign.

Instead of a Priestfield Great Hall affair Gills annouced their end of season Award winners before the game against Fleetwood Town. Supporters were asked to be inside Priestfield by 14.30 so that they could congratulate the players as the Trophies are handed out in front of the Medway Stand.

Among the various trophies were Player-of-the-Year (Josh Wright) the Young Player-of-the-Year (Bradley Dack) and the Goal-of-the-Season winner (Darren Oldaker). Chairman Paul Scally gave a short speech thanking the supporters for their support over the season.
