GillsConnect Comment

Dateline: FRIDAY 21 APRIL 2017

This might, or possibly might not, be the reasoning behind the decision to scrap the End of Season bash where supporters and sponsors, who pay for the privilege, can meet and greet players up close and personal. For the Club this cancellation of player celebration, plus refunded monies paid (if the Chairman was correct that it was nearly sold out), must be regarded as an absolute PR disaster.

GillsConnect can only surmise that this annual tradition has been scrapped this season because of a complete lack of supporter and sponsor interest and despite the Chairman’s words, ticket sales have probably been poor, mimicking the team’s efforts for most of this year’s struggling campaign.

Instead of a Priestfield Great Hall affair Gills will announce their end of season Award winners before Saturday’s game against Fleetwood Town. Supporters have been asked to be inside Priestfield by 14.30 so that they can congratulate the players as the trophies are handed out.

The various trophies will be given to the Player-of-the-Year, the Young Player-of-the-Year and the Goal-of-the-Season winner on the Priestfield pitch in front of the Medway Stand before the final home game kick-off that Gills need to win against automatic promotion chasing Fleetwood Town.
