At that time Chairman Paul Scally had considered sticking with Gills Gang of Four before appointing Justin Edinburgh and paid tribute to the caretaker management team for their efforts over eight games following Peter Taylor’s dismissal.

Andy Hessenthaler and Steve Lovell became part of new boss Edinburgh’s staff, while Darren Hare and Mark Patterson returned to their previous roles. Hare left the Gills in the summer and became manager of Hastings United.

However after a successful season Hare has decided to leave The Arrows of Hastings and the Isthmian League Division One South side confirmed they had accepted his resignation. Hare took Hastings to the Play-offs last season but the club said he has quit due to conflicting commitments.

The Club statement revealed, "Darren has been on holiday and on his return advised us that he wishes to concentrate on committing more time to his family and developing his business through FA coaching work, something that has suffered during 2016/17 due to his commitment to Hastings.”

“Darren feels that he leaves the Club with a group of settled players more than capable of getting promotion next season. We would like to thank Darren for his service and wish both himself and his family all the best for the future. Darren will always be a welcomed visitor to the Pilot Field."
