A confident Lovell said, “We are in the position now to push forward and we are now where we want to be with three weeks to go before the start of the season.”

Asked about the Dover game, Lovell was particularly pleased with the progress of striker Conor Wilkinson (pictured left) who scored and could have had two but his well-struck penalty was saved.

Lovell commented, “Conor is a very good finisher. He is a very confident player and very good on the ball. He brings us a nice dimension as a centre forward.”

Continuing his assessment of Gills new striker Lovell said, “He is a good finisher, he works the line well and he had a good workout.”

Luke O’Neill the former Southend defender who joined the Gills this summer was also on target in the second half and Lovell said, “It was a good header. He has been a great signing for us and he scored a good goal, he is a good professional and he worked hard. It was a good ball in and a good header.”
